Course Objectives 

Build essential skills in reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing mechanics.

• Develop strategies for each question type found in the four content domains.
• Improve accuracy, speed, and confidence through targeted practice and feedback.
• Prepare students to meet or exceed their target score in the Reading & Writing section.

1. Information and Ideas 

Focus: Comprehension, analysis, interpretation of texts and visual data.

Question Types:

• Main ideas and central claims
• Inference and implications
• Supporting evidence
• Understanding data in charts and graphs

2. Craft and Structure 

Focus: Vocabulary in context, author’s purpose, and rhetorical analysis.

Question Types:

• Meaning of high-utility words/phrases in context
• Function of a sentence or paragraph
• Rhetorical relationships between ideas
• Comparing viewpoints or tone across texts

3. Expression of Ideas 

Focus: Revising texts for clarity, logic, and effectiveness.

Question Types:

• Improving clarity and conciseness
• Reorganizing ideas for better flow
• Meeting specific rhetorical goals
• Adjusting tone and style to match purpose

4. Standard English Conventions

Focus: Grammar, sentence structure, usage, punctuation.

Question Types:

• Subject-verb agreement
• Pronoun usage
• Modifier placement
• Comma, apostrophe, and punctuation rules
• Sentence boundaries (run-ons, fragments, etc.)
